This last New Years Eve, we went out and did the family thing, First, dinner at one of the Japanese restraunts where they cook your food for you on the grill that your group is sitting around. Very fun, lame jokes and all. Next, we, as a familial group, went bowling..... and this is where things started going down hill.  As I'm sure that most of us (you) have gone bowling, we all know that a certain amount of flexability is needed..... and I seem to have lost it. I used to bowl quite a bit up to about age 35.... I stretch things out pretty well, and throw a pretty good hook on the ball.
But... I'm NOT 35 any longer, nor do I bowl on a regular basis, but I kinda forget that, ya know, getting swept up in the family outing!
So anyway, after realizing that I just am not going to stretch out like normal, I compensate....... I compensate for the lack of elacticity, and I compensate for the extra few pounds that I packed on the last...... 6 or 8 holiday seasons. I compensate, and still get a pretty good hook goin'.
Within a half an hour of leaving the bowling alley, I realize that I've got a new pain. Front right shoulder, right where it meets the collar bone. Crap! I did the cold/ heat thing, and have rubbed a couple of homeopathic ointments on it. It does seem to be getting better, I hit chest and triceps this morning and my shoulder didn't bother me. Of course, I didn't attempt any incline movements, and I'll just work around the area for the next week or so, hoping that it'll heal up.
 Injuries suck. Angry

I hear that.

I've been dealing with tennis elbow for awhile. In August I got a cortisone shot -- my second in 8 months -- and it cleared the pain up as usual. The doc said I shld take it easy returning to lifting. So I did so, took a month off and then resumed slowly adding weight. Three weeks ago I reached the same weight maximums I had prior  to the injury, and whaddayaknow? The pain came back, slowly at first, then more severely.

So I returned to the gym this week and it's a mixed bag. I can still do barbell bench press with no problem keeping a grip on the bar, but the elbow is still pretty sore. What's next? Surgery? Another pointless cortisone shot? Pretty frustrating.

I'm going to buy a brace and forge ahead.

Good luck on your recovery.

Yeh, best of luck with the recovery mate. I've only ever suffered a chest injury about 5 years ago and a knee injury playing football a couple years back. But thankfully my recovery was good. All the best to you and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Yep, injuries do suck! Bowling, such a seemingly unathletic hobby, can take you down! Ha! I love bowling, I cant get that hook right though, I have huge hands so I feel like I am palming the ball and end up just powering it down.

Hope you dont have any probs with that shoulder, and it was just a little tweak that'll heal up in a short time.

Good luck with the recovery--in your defense I think it is fairly easy to get injured bowling!  The guys I know with a heavy spin and hook use some bizarre twists and jerks to put it all into motion.

LOL!  I've been known to bring some bizarre twistd and jerks to a story, or a party.... But my hook is strictly forearm and hand initiated and generated!

My shoulder is definately getting better.
Strictly a short term injury! ( wiping sweat off of forehead!) Smiley

With age comes many boo boo's and unlike when we were younger they take forever to heal. So just be patient and work around the injury using pain as the indicator of what you can and can't do.
