This pic was 12 wks out from the Jr. Nationals 07, unfortunately I was unable to compete, I was injured " Inguinal hernia "... The protrusions of abdominal cavity contents were a bit disturbing, heres a shot from the back!

Your "protrusions of abdominal cavity contents" DO sound nasty..... Do the judges subtract points for those? LOL! Welcome aboard!

Welcome back brother! I know your pain, even though mine was a congenital umbilical hernia, I still competed with it. Luckily it wasnt bad except just a select few poses. I had an appointment set up for right after the show to get it fixed. Took about 4 weeks to get back to heavy weight and I am good as new this year, just a little scar under my bellybutton. Did you get it fixed? You'll be able to light it up next year! Here is a shot where you can see my hernia sticking out nice...

Your conditioning was excellent, even w/ the hernia, congrats! I had laparoscopic surgery a few days after the injury and unfortunately Ive had to have repair since! Im feeling better & looking forward to 08 & hopefully this is behind me! ttyl, SS HC - what show/shows are you planning to enter this season?

Did you not take enough time off or was it a screwup on the doc's part? I know I had to really listen to mine, some movements I could do a shitload of weight, and others I couldnt do even pussy weight. One that took forever to be able to do again was One Arm Dumbbell Rows. Actually I have JUST been able to do them in the last month without any pain in my hernia area. this is almost 8 months later! I'll probably do a couple more shows this year, sitting at 232 right now and 17 weeks out from the Oregon Ironman. Just altered my diet a bit and incorporated cardio this week. Plan on competing at 210 or so, was at 203 last year (in the pic above). How bout you bro, what shows you gonna do this year? Just shooting for Junior Nationals?

SS,
Great to have ya here. I'm sorry about the set back but this kinda shit has happened to quite a number of us. '08 will be your year I'm sure, and with a back like your sporting I'm quite sure you'll do some damage.
Oh and I gotta agree GREAT AVITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I did injure the same spot! I believe it was a combination of not enough time off & pushing too hard, too soon! " lesson learned " I completely understand what your saying about certain exercises, some are back to normal but a few are still behind & cause me pain/ troubles! Im making the most out of this situation & working around my injury the best I can & Im thankful to still be able to get it done! Tear those shows up this yr buddy & w/ those extra 6-8lbs you plan to put forward, w/ your conditioning you will do some damage, no doubt! Im planning on either the Collegiates or Jr USAs again but I'm not set on anything at the moment - Due to injury I havent competed since the Jrs in 06 where I placed 6th in the HW's & Im really determined to step it up in 08! Take care fellas! SS

Hey SS, welcome to Hardcore. I also had an Inguinal hernia repaired, about 15 years ago. They do take awhile to heal. You have one sick back! How about posting some more shots?

Thick-assed back SS! Wide as a Stealth Bomber bro! Yes, this type of hernia is quite common. Especially when extreme lifting is involved...not a big deal though. Also if I may add, instead of competeing as a heavy (your borderline) compete as a light-heavy. Jack.

Thx JT, I appreciate the kind words! This hernia may be typical, unfortunately after 2 operations, Its still an issue, Im concerned! Im limited on my selection of exercises, Im working around this injury the best I can and making progress! " no excuses " ..lol.. Jack T - Im 6' 257-260lbs, I have not competed as a LH since 2003-2004, do you seriously think based on my one pic I can compete on the NL at that weight, 6' 198lbs? I can post some pics from 2006 when I last competed, Im sure this will help some in your opinions! I was told this exact thing a few yrs back to compete as a LH, but I was very top heavy & walking on some little wheels! " It hurt to walk " .. .. In all honesty, Im still a bit behind concerning wheels, not from lack of effort! My quads are improving, its just a challenge compared to other muscles.." its coming along " Plx lmk your opinion on this, Thx SS!

Haha! 6ft & 260lbs...? ...growth hormone didn't really work for ya' you say... SHEEEEIT! I think the LH's is very do-able in your case bro. Just bring-up the wheels over the next year or so while just maintaining the upper body, possibly doing some "specialization" movements and not just all power/bulk/heavy... (except for quads, hams and calves) (as for the nationals you want to be as "peeled" as you can get)... and then cut 'er down! Ya. post some pics bro! Everyone here is cool! With alot of experience and knowledge...as they definately have helped me in the past... What was the recovery timespan from your first surgery? By that I mean what was the Doc's instructions? Did they slap some "mesh" up-in ya?
