OK, give me a couple movements for building mass through the thighs.  Leg press, smith machine squats?

Of course it's hard!!  If it were easy, everybody would do it.

My advice would be free weights for mass, machines for bringing lagging areas within the muscle groups up to scratch. I would use traditional Squats personally.

Free weight barbell squats below parallel. There is no substitute. Get someone to show you correct technique if you're unfamiliar, and don't worry about how much weight you're using, just get the movement down. Squats are the best for thigh mass, but they will make the rest of your body grow as well.

I agree. It's mind boggling how few people actually squat effectively. Done right, you can't beat them.

Yeah m&b, I see a lot of guys in my gym loading up the bar and doing curtsy squats, as if anybody else in the gym gives a shit about how much they think they can lift. One kid had to sit out the football season this year with his leg in a brace for exactly that reason - no spotter, no safety bars, 495 on the bar for a tiny partial movement when he likely couldn't go to parallel with 225. He still brags about how he can squat 5 plates though! Brilliant.

Aint that the truth!!I see these idiots all the time in the gym and ya they love to brag about their MASSIVE squats/lifts....fuking retards!

Squats are the best for overall quad growth but learn the proper form and don't get into the habit of using the knees to lift the weight. Also keep the reps betwen 8-20 as legs grow best with high reps rather than lower reps (for most people), and this will also ensure that you are using a weight that is not to heavy thus allowing you to concentrate on the muscle being worked and not just powering the weight up.
