It's been announced that Markus Ruhl will retire from competing.

It seems Markus did not want to announce his retirement before the Olympia because he didn't want to take any attention away from 8-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman's last Olympia.

I wonder if Paco beating him at the Spain show had anything to do with this? Paco looks great from the side but IMO sucks from both front and back.

Paco beat him at the Spanish show last year too (Ronnie Rockel too, I think) so I doubt it affected his decision. I think everyone accepts the partisan judging there is the reason Bautista wins that show. Amazing legs and absolutely insane conditioning, but just a flat-out unfortunate structure on Paco.

It's a shame Markus is retiring IMO, everyone's saying he's past it but I thought he looked fantastic at the 2006 Olympia, despite his pec tear. He was so huge he had a great X-frame look despite what must be a 38" waist! I thought he looked better than Cutler and Ronnie from the front - but of course he would never get a call-out with them.

You may have hit the nail on the head Adam with all the injuries Markus has suffered in the last few years maybe he just felt that it was time to concentrate on other aspects of his life like business, family etc.
