With my elbow the way it is, at this time, I can not do flat/incline bench press with a bar.
But.. for reasons I do not understand, I can do dumbell presses. While doing them this morning, I was wondering
where the dumbells should end up in the arms extended position. I seem to remember that, back when I was
hittin' it at a commercial gym, guys would clank the bells together at the top of the movement similar to how some
people do at the top of flyes. I tried clanking this morning, and it really didn't seem natural. I tried to do them
and keeping the bells out wide but that didn't feel quite right either. They naturally came in about half way.........
I guess I just answered my own question here, didn't I? Roll Eyes

Pretty much. The only thing accomplished by clanking the DB's is to distract and annoy everyone else. Once you go past a certain point, much of the tension is released from the pec muscles. Don't bother with little twists and tweaks at the top of the movement, either.

Keep your db pressing up to and out of your shoulder joint. What I mean by that is when you are doing a bench press or shoulder press, press up to where your wrists do NOT pass your shoulder joint. This is basic physics, once you pass your shoulder joint the active muscle (pec, or deltoid) is no longer working. Dipshits that clank the dumbbells are either (like MnB said) trying to get attention, or your body is finding a way to cheat with a miniscule rest time to recouperate and regenerate ATP (which happens VERY fast).

Aint that the truth I just want to slap those idiots upside the head for banging the DBs together at the top of a press! And as MnB stated once past a certain point the pecs relax as the muscle does not get the same contraction due to the weight being supported by the skeletal joints/bones, so always stop short of a lockout and squeeze the pecs hard (the same applies to DB fly's as well).
