i also think that the judges took into consideration that jeff seems to be more outspoken than me!!!! i got to experience his "ability" to express his views and....well....im not worthy!!!! Grin he makes my "frankness" look childlike!!!!

king looked good in a few shots, but believe me, he wasn't in his best shape, this goes for a few of the guys that were there. i put it down to the fact that most are looking for a buy to the olympia and want to peak for that show....
Indeed Queenie...the pictures may tell us one thing, but there is no substitution for an "in person" point of view!!

One other thing to consider is that if lifting heavy is causing you to have low back and knee issues thus not allowing you to train (legs anyway) then why not go lighter and concentrate on the muscle and maybe your joints will no longer hold ya back and you may also find that your legs do in fact grow from this type of training.

Lee Haney's old adage "train to stimulate not annihilate" may be the words of advice/wisdom that you may need to follow at this point.
I agree with you both on this. I learned a long time ago that you should never lift heavier than what your joints will allow you to. What this means is that if you are throwin' weight that is causing "hard" or real pain in any given joint related to the movement related to that joint, then you are well over the max stress load for the same, even for a "injury-free" body...of coarse we all feel pain during the first 2 or so "working" sets (even after a good warmup routine), but when the pain does not go away but persists, this may signal an underlying injury. Another lesson I have learned through trial and error is when working with heavier than normal (MAX) weights, NEVER go for a full stretch or lock-out, always move the weight slowly and deliberately, and ALWAYS save some for the recovery and even the next training session (this is why I simply love the "5 x 5" routine). I'll do it 4 or 5 times a year for 3 or so weeks at a time and that's it! I beleive that one does not have to constantly lift big to be big. Hell, even Ronnie and Jay will agree to this!   J.

Long has never gotten a fair shake from the IFBB judges. Even after they put out the mandate about rewarding aesthetic physiques, he still doesn't get decent placements for his fantastic shape. I have to admire Kamali's work ethic, I met him at the Ontario's last year and he was very nice and did a great guest posing. His waist line and lack of quad sweep don't make for the best X-frame though.

Hey ps, did you have to restrain Queenie from mauling The Box backstage?
Keep in mind now that this was IFBB-Canada...remember...IFBB-States is a whole nother ballpark. That is why the contestants for the Canada show barely had any weights or food/ water pre-show. Don't blame the IFBB for this one! Put the blame where it should go...on the local promoters. As they pretty much dropped the ball here! But Queenie already hit this nail on the head!

I just saw this so sorry for the late reply, but in reality most of the guys who do compete at quite a few shows say that most of the smaller pro shows are poorly run and the Arnold or a few of the Euro shows are really the only contests where the athletes are treated well (even the Olympia does not treat the athletes as well as they are treated at the Arnold).

And as far as promoters go the Nationals I competed in in 04 were very well run and we as athletes had more than enough equipment etc backstage as well as helpers. Mind you due to the size of that show we were kept in line by one very tough "stage mother" IFBB pro Donna Logue, but this Montreal show was just poorly promoted no matter what country it was held in. And as this is the same promoter that will be putting on the nationals in 08 QOD has decided to give it a pass.

At this point, I have no choice but to do this. Unfortunately, in my experience, unless I am moving some (not necessarily max) weight, size goes away. Hell, I haven't squatted any signficant weight in a couple of years. A year ago, I could still dead in the 600 range for a few reps, but not now.  When this last thing popped in my knee, I was doing leg press for some reps with a paltry 8 plates per side. It's still tight after about 3 weeks. I may have to have it looked at. I was trying to avoid having to.....
