OK, what's your favorite protein / meal replacement bar? I've tried many and some are good, some suck. I'm really looking for high protein, but lower calorie as I'm trying to cut some weight. Most high protein bars that I've found have high calories because their intended for mass gain. Any thoughts?

Most of them have too much sugar. I'm also suspect of the quality protein, also, not to menton the posted quantity. They are allowed some error, and I guarantee it won't be n our favor. . Check the ingredients. If you see "chicken beaks" it may not be the one you want.

Hey..
First, protein bars are the best alternative to protein powder and meal replacements. Take them anywhere you go, and you can eat a protein bar anywhere - no mess, no fuss. You can find all types of protein bars, pure protein bars, diet bars, energy bars, just about a type for any need, and all 'designed' for that need, be it weight gain, or weight loss.

I seldom if ever eat protein bars...hell my sponsor sends me new ones to try out and I just give 'em to the wife. I generally DO NOT trust protein bars, and will only eat one if I'm stuck and going hypo-glycemic etc.

What don't you trust about protein bars? The nutritional content? Do you use protein powders?

I don't trust them either, and history bears this out. I remember when Trioplex and Detour bars first came out they tasted amazing, but subsequent lab analysis revealed that both of these bars had much more sugar and fat and a lot less protein than the label claimed - IIRC it was 14 grams of protein versus the 30 claimed for one of them. They both adjusted their recipes along the way, much to the detriment of the flavour. I stll eat protein bars, but not as a staple and in the offseason only. I like Pro Source's Supreme bars, but realistically they are just candy with a little protein. If you're trying to lose weight or build muscle and you're relying on protein bars as part of your daily diet, I suggest replacing them with whole foods or shakes for three or four months and see if there isn't noticeable improvement.
Sure bars are easy and convenient - so are leg extensions but they aren't going to make your legs grow like squats. Successful bodybuilding almost always involves taking the most difficult route, in my experience.
