Just browsing the web and came across some articles about people wanting to start weight training, but wanting to loose 1-2 stone of 'fat' first.

Looking at these made me think a little. How would the diet work for someone like that? Could you still put them on lower carbs and make up the calories from protein/EFAs or would the extra protein be pointless? Would it be more benificial for them to just do more cardio or would this still work well in conjuction with the lower carbs/higher protein principle?

Generally Beef this is just a normal misconception that most of the general public (and some PTs etc) have adopted/believe. It's imperative that these beginners get started on a weight program and once this is established then go to work on the nutrition as well as the BF loss.

Sorry p.s. only just seen the reply. I see, so basically it's another one to watch for. There seems to be so much information on the internet nowadays that cannot be trusted, in fact not just on the internet but in the gyms too. I hope this board stays here for good because it's the only way I'm advancing my knowledge from trusted sources!

As an example of hitting the weights before worrying about diet....One of the gals I work with is quite overweight, and she decided that it was time to lose the BF so she joined the gym and she went to the PT I recommended. Now here it is only 1 month later and her clothes do not fit properly (WAY to big) and all she had done is exercise so far ie weights and some cardio. Soon she'll have to do something about her nutrition, but as it stands right now she is making incredible changes in her body with just exercise.

So there ya go a quick and successful case study.
