guys, lookin for some advice

until last week i did conventional squats but my flexibility or rather lack of it, means it real hard to hold the bar in position accross my traps. my hands are streched right back with the bar resting near the tips of my fingers. this puts a huge strain on my wrists causing them to hurt bad(been broken couple times) and screws the rest of the weeks training

so what do you suggest as a replacement? i did smith machine squats today which were ok but would like to control the whole weight myself

was suggested front squats, would these be a suitable replacement or stick with the smith machine?

thanks

I use the Smith machine for my squats

you might want to try the front squat if holding the bar behind your neck bothers you that much

I completely agree...I use the smith machine now for my squats as well and I love it.  It holds form and allows one to stretch that flexability and really accent the muscles that are targetted.

For BBing the front squat is very effective for over-all quad developement, and by adding smith squats as well this will make for some well developed legs.

Take it slow as the amount lifted is not nearly as important as the quality of the lift.
