Hello to all,
Thursaday i found myself sitting in urgent care do to severe pain in my chest. I knew it wasn't a muscle tear, it felt more internal.. The pain started monday, but i still hit it hard throughout the week. but the pain became unbearable and evertime I'd take in air it felt as though my heart was going to explode.
The doc said I have a cartilige strain/ inflamation between my sternum and rib cage.
not sure what did it
but man it hurts..
I am on tylonol 3 and ibproffrin (sp) 800.
This sucks because it is breakin my stride, ya know!
But just thought i'd rapp to you guys about it..

Costochondritis is a funny diagnose. It’s usually the diagnose given when you don’t have the slightest idea what’s happening but you know were. Its not even in the CIE-10 (Manual of Medical diagnosis), but we all use it and we all think it actually exists.
All you have to do mate is rest. I myself prefer Naproxen, but if your Doctor gave you Ibuprofen he/she might have had a reason. Just remember to take 400mg every six hours.
You can complement with cold-heat therapy which means you put ice for about 20-30minutes, and then use a hot towel or hot water bag for 20-30 minutes again for a couple of cycles. That will help the inflammation go.
I said it already but I want to emphasize in it: REST. A costochondritis is a fairly benign injury, but it can become dreadful if you don’t pay the enough attention.
Cheers,
Camilo

Had that several years ago. Actually rushed me to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack. It was very painful and lasted for several months before I could get back in the gym again. Every time I would move or twist it would send stabbing pains throughout my chest.
Fact of the matter was I felt something going on way before it became a bigger issue but ignored it cause I was going to tuff it out. It was a live a learn experience.

I spoke to a girl today who stated she had it before also, and she said she was told it was because of heavy lifting, and that extra squeez we lifters tend to try to do. I usually squeez the weight for about 3 seconds at the top of each rep. So I was told that possibly did it. Also the nurse that did my initial check stated usually smokers or heavy coughers gets this inflimation of the chest cavity.
Watch out though boys and girls, because this crap hurts..
Although to day I feel pretty good, and can almost expand my lungs 100% without it hurting, so I'll give it till wednesday...
But on that day, the clouds are going to come and lighting will strike twice on that day, because I am pissed and plan on "MURDERING" my back.
Oh yeah baby!!!!!!

I would not try to do anything at this point coneytt, every move you make will stress that area now and only delay healing.

I've had this as well as a rib that liked to pop out of my sternum every now and then. Cold therapy (IE freeze the shit outta the area) and a trip or two to the chiro usually takes care of the rib issue.
